The Bradford Index Factor is a simple calculation sometimes used in Human Resources and Occupational Health as
one measure of employee absenteeism.
Calculate Bradford Factor score:
- Absences: the number of occasions of absence in the last 52 weeks
- Total Days Absent: the total number of days absence in the last 52 weeks
Recomeded Thresholds Table
The Bradford Factor is not universally accepted; especially if used to discipline employees since it takes no account of individual circumstances. However, as one indicative measure of overall absenteeism it appears to have support.
The number of Bradford points that trigger an absence review varies widely among employers. For example, some employers might adopt a policy whereby any individual with a Bradford Factor of more than 500 may need further investigation.
